Biomimetic Dentistry

Biomimetic Dentistry is the most current, science supported, approach to treating weak, fractured, and decayed teeth in a way that keeps them strong and seals them from bacterial invasion. Careful sealing against infection eliminates the need for 60% to 90% of the crowns and root canal treatments of traditional "drill and fill" dentistry.  Dr. Shvartsman does not simply "dig out decay and fill holes".  He restores teeth using modern adhesive materials, composite fillings and porcelains in a way that rebuilds teeth as close to their original structure, function and esthetics as possible with today's materials.   The underlying principle of Biomimetic Dentistry is conservative dentistry. We make every effort to conserve as much of your own healthy teeth as possible.  Dr. Shvartsman is one of two dentists in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY to be trained in and practice Biomimetic Dentistry.  There are currently only 170 Biomimetic dentists in the United States.

NEEDLE-FREE INJECTIONS
For those of you familiar with Star Trek, injections in the imagined future are done not with a needle but with a puff of air. Well, that injection with a puff of air is no longer a fantasy, but a reality in our office!  Pain - free injections are just a puff away!

ICON: DRILL-FREE innovative treatment of early cavities and white spots.
Until now, dental professionals have had only two choices in the treatment of tooth decay dentally known as caries: use fluoride to restore enamel through remineralization in the very early stages OR “watch and wait” until its time to “drill and fill.”  ICON represents an entirely new, revolutionary approach to treatment of incipient caries – a caries infiltrant. Developed in Europe over the past decade, ICON is the subject of   numerous international studies proving its effectiveness. This breakthrough micro technology fills and reinforces demineralized enamel without destructive drilling or the need for shots.  In addition, unsightly white spots on your teeth will disappear with a single ICON treatment.

 Drilling? No Thanks!

No Mercury!!!  Live Healthy. Live Mercury Free
Silver-mercury (black) amalgam fillings have not been used by Dr. Shvartsman Since graduating Dental Residency. In addition to the natural look, the new bonded  composite fillings ‘bond’ to the tooth, resulting in a much stronger tooth, have less susceptibility to cracking teeth and are much healthier for the teeth and the  environment.

Super Numbing Gel
If the Laser cannot be used and you do need an injection to ensure a comfortable dental experience, we use pharmacy custom-made numbing gel that is more effective than traditional numbing jelly. In fact, Dr. Shvartsman had gum surgery done on him with the use of this super numbing gel alone!

World's Smallest Dental Needles

No one likes getting an injection, but when it is necessary, Dr. Shvartsman used the smallest available dental needles.  They are imported from Germany. Most American dentists do not even know they exit and do not use them.  With our super numbing gel and these thinner, shorter needles we can administer a virtually painless injection.

Trimira Identifi 3000

This allows us to treat oral cancer in its earliest stages when treatment is more successful and less disfiguring.  Click here for more details.

Advanced Magnification
Teeth are very small-smaller than your pinky finger nail. In order to provide you with the best possible dental care we need to fully see what we are doing.   Both Dr. Shvartsman and the dental hygienists use specially made dental magnifying glasses during your treatment. In fact, Dr. Shvartsman's glasses magnify his vision by 500 times!

DENTAL MICROSCOPE: Precision Without Compromise
The Surgical Dental Microscope increases our sight by 800 to 3000 times! This is especially helpful during root canal therapy to make sure the root canal system in your tooth is cleaned thoroughly and properly ensuring a more successful outcome.  This means less pain during and after root canal treatment. In addition, root canal treatment outcomes are more successful. The need for root surgery( apicoectomy)  and reinfection is greatly reduced.

We are proud to be the first and only General Dental office in the Smithtown area to offer this level of Sate-of-the-Art Dental care.

96% Less Radiation X-Rays
Our office utilizes modern digital x-rays! We are proud that a recent New Your State Inspection found that our office uses the lowest radiation levels in our area! Our new upgraded digital x-ray sensors allow us to lower radiation exposure  up to 96% compared to old fashioned film x-rays. The images that are produced give us more information than conventional x-rays. With this added information Dr. Shvartsman can diagnose smaller cavities and infections that, when treated earlier, results in more comfort for our patients.

Bright & Healthy Smile
If you have been disappointed with over the counter products, or if conventional dental whitening methods produced mediocre results that do not last, ask about Dr. Shvartsman’s Deep Whitening Technique.   Deep WhiteningMAX is simply the most effective whitening technique available today. Dr. Shvartsman can make your teeth their whitest. Even “resistant” or tetracycline stained teeth will get whiter!

The Latest Sterilization Techniques to Ensure Your Health & Safety
Sterilization is an area that Dr. Shvartsman’s patients never have to worry about. Not only does he use the most high powered sterilization techniques available, but an independent laboratory regularly monitors the process to ensure safety.  Dr. Shvartsman even uses a self contained water bottle system to ensure that his water lines and water sprays are safe from harmful bacteria

Laser Cavity Scanner
We use the latest in cavity detection technology: The Diagnodent. If you are like most of us, you’ve had the dentist find a cavity, place a rather large filling and you’ve wondered why the filling is so large if the cavity wasn’t there six months before.  The answer is that the cavity was there six months before — it just wasn’t big enough to show on x-rays and was not visible to the dentist yet. In fact, nearly 40% of early cavities are undetected by conventional methods.  Our new Laser Scanner, the Diagnodent, can now painlessly find cavities years earlier, when the ultra-small cavity can be removed quickly and painlessly, many times without the need for an injection.  With its 90% accuracy its like having a second opinion during every check-up

Digital Photography
Communicating with our Dental Laboratory is essential to producing beautiful dental restorations.  Our state of the art Digital Camera system allows us to take pictures of your teeth and smiles and e-mail or send photos to our Dental Laboratories.  In this way our Porcelain Artists can predictably achieve natural looking results with your Crowns, Veneers and Bridges.

Miniature Video Cameras for Your Mouth

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. That is why we are using miniature video cameras that take pictures inside the mouth and instantly transmit the images to the TV’s in the treatment rooms. No more fumbling with awkward hand mirrors! This is a helpful tool that is useful not only to educate you about your mouth, but also magnifies your teeth and aids in the diagnosis potential problems.  Now you can see your problem areas for yourselves without having to "take our word for it".

Allergy Free Metals
If you have red, irritated gums around crowns or bridges no matter how well you brush, you may have an allergy to the metal in your dental work! Many people have allergies to nickel, copper or beryllium. In fact 25% of all women are allergic to nickel. Some dentists, in order to save money, use cheaper dental alloys in their crowns, bridges and dentures.  Dr. Shvartsman cares about his patients’ health, that is why he never uses these potentially allergic metals  in his dental restorations.
In fact, our crowns are now metal-free. They are made with Emax porcelain. This porcelain is 4 times stronger than the porcelain on a metal-fused-to-porcelain crown and is not abrasive to natural enamel.

Root Canals are a Breeze! Advanced Endodontics at our office

The mention of this word sends shivers down peoples spines. That is why at State of the Art Comfort Dentistry  root canal therapy is done with the aid of a Dental Microscope for added precision. Quiet electric drill and the most current root canal instruments ensure a relaxed experience and less time in the dental chair. The treatment results have become much more successful with our advanced disinfection protocols. Many dentists use multiple x-rays to determine the length of the tooth root during treatment. Our office utilizes a mini-computer to do the same job. This means much fewer x-rays during your root canal treatment. In our office, root canal treatment is faster, quieter and more comfortable compared to traditional methods.

Gentler Extractions
Tooth extractions have always been a barbaric procedure… until now.  In
Europe, tooth extraction techniques have been redesigned and Dr. Shvartsman is proud to offer this gentler tooth extraction method, the Ogram technique, to his patients. By using new instruments and techniques Dr. Shvartsman can extract teeth gently, without the need to cut gums, or drill away bone. His patients experience less bleeding, pain and swelling afterwards and dry sockets are a thing of the past.

Focus on Prevention
Dr. Shvartsman has designed a Prevention Protocol that uses three different methods to reduce decay in your mouth.
Fluoride treatments create a decay resistant layer in all teeth (not only baby teeth). That is why we recommend adult fluoride treatments to patients who are at a higher risk for tooth decay. People who have gum recession, tooth sensitivity, multiple fillings and crowns, or those who may have difficulty brushing (such as arthritis of the hands) benefit as well.  We have recently introduced MI Paste a new approach to sensitivity and enamel decay reversal using Recaldent: amorphous calcium phosphate.  Xylitol has been scientifically proven to reduce decay causing bacteria in your mouth and reduce the number of cavities you get.
