Long Island Dentist, Dr. Alex Shvartsman of Smithtown, NY is thrilled to bring you this exciting news!

A Japanese based research group let by Takashi Tsuji, a professor in the Research Institurte for science and technology at Tokyo Univesity of Science has successfully grown a Bioengineered tooth in a mouse.  In transplantation experiments a bioengineered tooth germ developed into a fully functional tooth. The tooth has sufficient hardness for masticaltion and exhibited nerve innervation and all the supporting structures for attachment to bone and gums.  The bioengineered tooth had all the responsiveness to external stimuli as did a natural tooth.  This experiment is a significant advance in regenerative therapies of artificial organ replacement. The future looks bright for replacing missing teeth with Bioengineered natural tooth replacements from stem cells or other germ cells.
