New Links between Oral Health, Heat Disease and Diabetes

New Research is further reinforcing the link between oral health and totlal body health. Also known as the Holistic Dental Model. Two new studies have found links between gum disease - diabetes and oral hygiene - heart disease.

The first study, published in Chochrane Database of Systemic Review - May 2010  issue, found that periodontal (gum) disease in type 2 diabetics may lower their blood sugar levels. This research suggests that gum health assessment should be recommend as part of routine diabetes managment.

The second study, published in British Medical Journal - May 2010, found that people with poor oral hygiene have a higher risk of heart disease.

This new research further reinforces preventive dentistry which included regular dental exams and professional dental cleanings.
