     Dr. Shvartsman's dental office is committed to providing you with the most comfortable dental care possible. That is why we offer Laser Dentistry as an alternative to traditional techniques. We currently use 4 different lasers in our dental practice.

Laser Cavity Scanner: The Diagnodent
     Most dentists use a sharp-pointy pick to check for cavities. You may have this instrument stuck in your tooth in the past. Not only can this be painful, but a sharp-pointy pick coming at your face is not a comforting experience if you are already nervous at the dentist. The fact is cavity detection with this technique is only about 60% effective; many small cavities go unseen and can become large cavities if left untreated. This can lead to unnecessary root canal treatment, crowns or extractions.
Diagnodent 
In our office we use the Laser Cavity Scanner called the Diagnodent. This laser is over 90% effective in painlessly finding event the smallest cavities early, when they can be treated conservatively with a small filling. In many cases you do not even need a shot! We are thrilled to offer this gentler and more effective laser dentistry diagnostic tool to our patients.
Laser Fillings: The Er: Yag Dental Laser
     This dental laser allows us to treat cavities without the use of shots and Novocain. Over 90% of patients do not feel anything at all during treatment, and those who do say it wasn’t bad enough to need a shot. You can have a filling done and go have a meal, give a speech or meet with a client without the worry of looking and sounding funny from a numb lip and face.

      Dr. Shvartsman is proud to be the first General Dentist to offer the Versa Wave Dental Laser to his patients.
Laser Gum Disease Treatment: The SoftLase Diode Laser
     Gum disease is caused by bacteria deep under your gums and around your teeth. Traditional treatment involves the use of Antibiotics to kill these bacteria so the gums can heal. In our Smithtown, Long Island, dental office, we offer a chemical-free alternative: the Nd:Yag Powerlase Dental Laser. This technology is extremely effective at removing harmful bacteria and infected gums tissue from around your teeth.Studies have shown actual bone regrowth around teeth in some patients. Healing is actually faster after laser use. We have had great success with this Non-Surgical form of laser gum disease treatment.
Diode Laser 
Laser Canker Sore Treatment

     Many people needlessly suffer from canker sores or Aphthous ulcers. Gentle Laser energy is used in our office to quickly heal these painful and sometimes debilitating mouth ulcers. Not only is the pain reduced immediately, but the ulcers heal in 1 day versus the usual 10-day healing period.

Scalpel-free laser surgery

      Dr. Shvarstman uses the Diode laser instead of a scalpel to perform bloodless surgery. Procedures include biopsies, removal of gum overgrowth around teeth, freeing up tongue tie (frenectomy) to name a few.
