Dental Implants

Implant dentist: Dr. Alex  Shvartsman has completed a 2 year Fellowship in Dental Implants and Advanced Prosthetic Dentistry at the prestigious Long Island NSUH-LIJ Dental Program. His advanced training has enables him to help many people with complex restorative dental implant procedures. In fact, many local implant surgeons refer many of their patients as well as their family  to Dr. Shvartsman to complete the restorative portion of dental implant treatment.

A dental implant is a complete tooth root replacement. A titanium cylinder is placed into the jaw using a gentle surgical procedure. Over a period of 2-6 months the metal fuses to the bone and is used to support crowns, bridges or dentures. Dental implants in their current form have been used for over 50 years with success rates over 90%. They are considered by many dentists the standard of care in tooth replacement today and the majority will last a lifetime!

One of the main advantages of dental implants is that unlike teeth, dental implants will never get a cavity. Decay is the number one reason fillings or crowns need replacement and is the major cause of tooth loss today. In addition, your natural teeth do not need to be damaged in any way in order to have a dental implant.

Single tooth replacement
Single tooth replacement using dental implants is most common

Rebuilding the tooth consists of 3 stages:
1. Surgical placement of the root shaped dental implant
2. Attaching a post to the implant called an "abutment"
3. Placing a crown on the post

Multiple tooth replacement
When many teeth are missing it is possible to use fewer implants to support a multi tooth bridge. Often as little as six strategically placed implants can support the entire bridge in a single jaw.

Denture support
Dentures can be made stable and secure by utilizing 2 - 4 implants and clips as shown below. Eating can be enjoyable again!
