Dental Amalgam FDA Review scheduledAmalgam Fillings safety will be reviewed by an advisory panel for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Dec 14 and 15, 2010. The panel will deliberate on dental amalgam regulation, focusing on possible health risks to young children, pregnant women and nursing mothers. In light of the recent reclassification of dental amalgam from a class I to a class II device, new concerns regarding adequacy of safety studies, bioaccumulative effect of mercury form amalgam fillings and effect of mercury vapor exposure form amalgam fillings on the pediatric population. Dr. Shvartsman has always maintained State of the Art Comfort Dentistry as a mercury-free dental practice and follows the IOMAT protocol for safer Silver-Mercury amalgam filling removal.
