Children's dental habits reflects the parent's: Teaching by example

Children are more likely to visit the dentist as adults if their parents do also is the finding of a recent study.  Authors of the study at the Massachusetts General Hospital advise that strategies to promote sound  oral health habits and behavior should focus on the entire family.


Whether or not children receive regular dental care is strongly associated with their parents' history of seeking dental, according to a report that appeared in the Journal of Pediatrics.  It is the first to analyze in a nationally representative sample the relationship between parent's and children's dental visits.  


At a time when consumption of refined carbohydrates is on rise and incidence of tooth decay and gum disease. This trend has paralleled the increase of as child obesity and diabetes.  It is time for parents to closely examine how their behavior and heath habits effect their children.
